Good news! I was offered a one-month residency at the Djerassi Resident Artists Program, located on a cattle ranch in the mountains near Santa Cruz, this fall. The history of this program and its founders (Carl Djerassi, inventor of the birth control pill, and literary light Diane Middlebrook) is fascinating, and I can’t wait to get to this gorgeous place.
My month at Jentel was so rejuvenating & free & productive (I wrote 3 full new essays, plus tens of thousands of words toward other essays, read a bunch of books, did freelance work, interviewed for a fellowship, made friends, and still had plenty of time for swimming holes & sunsets), and I hope Djerassi will be all that & more.
