Rejection season rolls on.
I didn't get a big fellowship to move to Little Rock or Tulsa, and I didn't get a scholarship from AWP or Sewanee Writers Conference, nor a residency at the Millay Colony.
As for the story I've got kicking around out there in various submission queues, I received two encouraging rejections today: superdream journal Granta says they enjoyed it but "ultimately decided that it wasn't right"; and the always-great New England Review sent a personal, specific note.
Still waiting to hear on 5 fellowship apps, and the story is still out to 9 journals. In any case, I've been moving forward making new work, soaking up California, and am grateful to my writing communities/support groups. Sending this song out to all the other creatives suffering through this long season: "Losers," by the Belle Brigade.
